Sports Coaching Group celebrates staff excellence at annual awards and Christmas celebration

Christmas awards

An evening of celebration, recognition and reflection brought colleagues together as Sports Coaching Group and marked the end of another successful year with our annual awards evening and Christmas celebration.

The event provided an opportunity to recognise the people at the heart of the organisation, the coaches, apprentices and support staff who deliver high-quality sport, swimming and education programmes across schools, pools and communities throughout the year.

Awards were presented to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution in their roles, demonstrating professionalism, commitment and a genuine passion for working with children and young people.

The prestigious Coach of the Year, The James Ellwood Trophy was awarded to coach Poppy Jones, recognising her outstanding coaching standards, leadership qualities and positive impact across programmes.

Her dedication and consistency throughout the year made her a standout recipient of the award.

The Director’s Pick award went to Marketing Manager Lucy Jones, acknowledging her ongoing commitment, reliability and influence within the organisation.

The award reflects the high regard in which she is held by colleagues and leadership alike.

Swimming provision also took centre stage on the night, with James Johnson named Swim Teacher of the Year.

His award recognises excellence in teaching, learner progression and maintaining high standards across swimming lessons.

Investment in development and training was highlighted through the Apprentice of the Year award, presented to George Johnson.

His achievement reflects significant personal progress, dedication to learning and a strong future within the organisation.

The evening also celebrated collaboration across the wider group, with Gill Kesteven recognised from sister company Uniform Group, underlining the importance of teamwork and shared values across partner organisations.

Beyond the awards themselves, the event served as a reminder that Sports Coaching Group’s success is built on its people and underpinned with the philosophy of its parent company EMPHASIS Community Interest Company.

From school sport and swimming lessons to holiday programmes and community delivery, it is the professionalism and enthusiasm of staff that drives positive outcomes every day.

As the organisation looks ahead to the new year, the awards evening reinforced a strong culture of recognition, development and shared purpose, and a commitment to continuing to support staff to grow, excel and make a lasting impact.
