Sports Coaching Group coaches enhance skills through elite hour CPD training to further improve the experience of children at schools and in communities

At a staff continuing professional development sessions Sports coaching Group staff focused on eliminating 'dead' time at the start and end of coaching sessions.

Continuous improvement is at the heart of everything we do at Sports Coaching Group and recently our coaching team came together for another valuable professional development session aimed at enhancing the experience we provide to children, schools and communities.

The latest company-wide CPD session, called “Elite Hour”, focused on refining coaching techniques and ensuring every minute of a session delivers maximum impact.

With coaches working across schools, holiday clubs, swimming lessons and community programmes, creating engaging and effective sessions is essential.

The Elite Hour workshop challenged staff to examine how they structure their sessions and identify opportunities to eliminate “dead” time, those moments where participants may be waiting, disengaged or not actively involved in learning and development.

Through a series of practical discussions and interactive activities, coaches explored ways to maintain high levels of engagement from the moment participants arrive until the final whistle.

A key focus of the session was the importance of strong starts and finishes.

Coaches looked at strategies for creating energetic introductions that immediately capture attention, set expectations and establish a positive learning environment.

Equally, the team discussed how effective session endings can reinforce learning objectives, celebrate achievements and leave participants eager to return.

The CPD also covered a range of coaching skills designed to help staff deliver sessions with greater confidence, clarity and purpose.

From communication techniques and organisation to behaviour management and activity transitions, the workshop highlighted how small adjustments can make a significant difference to the overall participant experience.

At Sports Coaching Group, investing in staff development is a key part of maintaining high standards across all of our programmes.

By regularly bringing coaches together to share ideas, learn from one another and develop new skills, we ensure that children continue to receive engaging, enjoyable and educational experiences.

The Elite Hour session demonstrated the passion our staff have for continual improvement and their commitment to delivering the very best sessions possible.

As we head into a busy summer period, the learning gained from the workshop will help our coaches continue to inspire, engage and develop young people across all of our programmes.
