On behalf of EMPHASIS Community Interest Company, Sports Coaching Group delivers engaging and impactful Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) programmes designed to support the holistic development of pupils in primary and secondary schools. 

Our tailored approach combines education with physical activity, helping children build confidence, resilience and essential life skills in a fun and inclusive environment.

Our PSHE provision includes a range of innovative initiatives such as Playleaders programmes, which empower pupils to take on leadership roles during break and lunch times, alongside Active Reading and Active Maths, where movement is used to enhance learning, engagement and retention across the curriculum. 

We also offer girls-only programmes, creating safe and supportive spaces that encourage participation, boost confidence and promote positive wellbeing.

Aligned with the National Curriculum, our PSHE programmes focus on key areas including physical and mental health, teamwork, communication, and personal development.

Play Leaders is a practical leadership and wellbeing programme that trains selected pupils—usually from upper KS2—to organise, deliver and support simple playground games for younger children.

Through a series of engaging workshops, pupils learn to:

• To use clear communication and positive body language;

• Demonstrate empathy and fairness in play;

• Teach and adapt games using the introduce, demonstrate, play method;

• Apply the STEP model (Space, Task, Equipment, People) to make games inclusive and accessible;

• Encourage others and act as role models during break and lunch times;

• Help create safe, organised playground zones;

The programme combines active learning, teamwork challenges, practical demonstration opportunities and reflective journaling, giving pupils the chance to grow their confidence and leadership skills.

Active Reading is a reflective, discussionbased programme that uses highquality children’s literature to explore key PSHE themes. 

Across six structured sessions, pupils deepen their understanding of friendships, emotions, respect, diversity, health, online safety and personal goals.

Through shared reading, guided dialogue, creative activities and  reflections, pupils learn to connect stories to their own lives, build empathy, express themselves confidently and understand how their choices shape their wellbeing.

What is Active Reading?

Active Reading blends PSHE learning with purposeful reading experiences. 

Each session centres around a carefully selected book that opens discussion around important themes. Pupils learn to:

  • Reflect meaningfully on stories and characters;
  • Connect text to reallife experiences and emotions;
  • Share ideas confidently in group discussions;
  • Develop vocabulary around feelings, relationships and choices;
  • Explore positive behaviours and healthy decisionmaking;
  • Build empathy and understanding of diverse families and communities.

The Confidence Movement Booklet. Sports Coaching Group is running courses aimed at empowering girls.

The Confidence Movement is a transformative six-week programme designed specifically for young girls to help increase self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. 

Recognising the unique pressures of growing up today, each week explores a new theme aimed at building a resilient mindset.

Participants will navigate critical topics such as:

  • Digital Literacy: Critically analysing the “highlight reels” of the internet and social media to foster a healthy self-image;
  • The Power of Connection: Understanding how positive, supportive friendships act as a foundation for personal confidence;
  • Self-Advocacy: Developing the tools to speak up and believe in their own potential;

The sessions are delivered in one-hour slots that balance theory with practical application.

Facilitated through an interactive workbook, the programme combines reflective exercises with hands-on activities to ensure a dynamic and engaging learning experience.

  • Authentic dialogue and trust: Create a safe, non-judgmental space to encourage open, honest conversation and mutual vulnerability among participants;
