Since 1994, swimming and water safety has been a statutory element of the National Curriculum for Physical Activity in England.
Swimming is the only sport to be included within the National Curriculum physical education programme of study.
All primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons at either Key Stage 1 or 2.
This is where Sports Coaching Group can help.
We can provide pop-up pools to help you to provide these important lessons. We now have 10 pools.
SCG provides a pop-up filtered, heated pool at your school with qualified swimming teachers and lifeguards for 5.5 hours per day.
We install the pool and take it down and in case of accidents, it is fully insured.
It is installed three to five days before lessons to ensure quality, filtration and temperature checks have all been undertaken and are correct.
The pool is covered with a secure marquee. The pool is 32ftx16ft (9.7m x 4.8m) and has 55,000 litres of water, heated to between 28-32 degrees.
We have calculated that on average the water and electricity costs for two weeks is £400. The only other additional cost is to install an outdoor electrical point. This is obviously a one-off and would be incurred for the first time you have the pool only.
During the school day, a member of our team will be at the pool at all times, even when the pool is not in use. When the school is closed, the marquee will be locked and the ladder to gain access to the pool is removed.
Sports Coaching Group will provide and have any risk assessments you will need.
NONE. Everything is covered under Sports Coaching Group insurance
All schools are different, most schools can find a secure area for children to get changed in. We suggest that if space is at a premium, girls and boys can be taught at different times, so that the same space can be used. If there is no suitable space inside the school, we can provide an extra marquee at a small additional cost.
The timetable will be completely up to the school. We advise 30 minutes intense lessons. Some Schools target specific year groups and some prefer to get time for all year groups.
EACH PUPIL IS REQUIRED TO IDEALLY:
1. Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
2. Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m.
3. Use a range of strokes effectively, including front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke.
