Sports Coaching Group has this week launched its first-ever Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) holiday club in Biddulph, Staffordshire.
The club has been made possible thanks to thanks to essential support from Staffordshire County Council.
For Sports Coaching Group it’s a milestone moment, but just one highlight in what’s been the organisation’s largest summer #HAF programme.
The #HAF programme, backed by both local authorities and the Department for Education, offers free holiday childcare, nutritious meals, and active, enriching experiences to children eligible for income-based free school meals.

As well as Staffordshire, Sports Coaching Group has worked with Cheshire East and Cheshire West councils.
The #HAF clubs go beyond sport: children aged 5–12 enjoy a variety of activities – from sports to games, arts, crafts, quizzes, and themed challenges such as Nerf, Gladiators’ Day and Wet ‘n Wild fun.
Until this week, the #HAF clubs, which are free to those who are eligible and include free nutritional food, have been running across Cheshire.
This year Sports Coaching has expanded its Teen #HAF offering, catering for teenagers aged 13–17.
There have been new sessions hosted at YouthZone at Sandbach SportsZone, featuring activities like golf simulators, darts, pool, and Sky Sports, with free lunches.
Alongside this, ambitious #HAF teens aged 14+ have been taking part in career-development opportunities, such as the 1st4Sport Level 1 Activators Award, starting their journey into sports coaching.
In additonal, #HAF teens have been able to take part in a coaching experience, where the have helped Sports Coaching Group coaches to run clubs.
From Biddulph’s maiden #HAF launch to multi-site offerings for children and teens, Sports Coaching Group’s summer #HAF programme has been ambitious, inclusive, and community-driven.
